OUR MISSION
Established in 2022, we focus on restoring the Connecticut River mouth and Long Island Sound ecosystems through education and eco-friendly economic initiatives.
Our mission is to increase awareness among local, regional, national and global stakeholders on the vital role of the river. Initially, engagement will be primarily among members of the Old Lyme community, and other coastline towns who will all actively benefit from cleaner waters, protection from coastal erosion, and the regeneration and restoration of the town’s estuaries and coastline. To do so, we are seeking partnerships with local non-profits, educational institutions, businesses, state, local and federal government agencies and other regional stakeholders. Our initial efforts will be to focus on a few foundational pilot projects to demonstrate the benefits of restoration and regenerative activities for the following areas of Old Lyme: The Connecticut River side of Great Island, Griswold Point the Back River up to the end of Kinner Lane and Black Hall River up to the Mile Creek Road crossing. We seek to engage in two initial pilot projects to restore oysters and eelgrass to study and restore historic oyster beds as described below.
